Have you noticed a decline in your email marketing success recently?  With phishing and ransomware attacks on the rise, Google and Yahoo are tightening security measures in efforts to protect users and their data.  As of February 2024, Google and Yahoo have started blocking emails from senders not in compliance with DMARC protocol. DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) is the gold standard for email authentication. It protects your brand, customers, and employees from phishing attacks and email fraud.  If you are not compliant, your messages are not reaching your audience.

If you send bulk emails, more than 5,000 per day, to Gmail accounts, you will have to adhere to more stringent standards.  Additionally, you will need to:

  • Have a Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) policy in place
  • Ensure Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) alignment
  • Make it easy for recipients to unsubscribe (one-click unsubscribe)

Apple has also released a best practice guide for iCloud mail.  While they have not yet set a deadline for compliance they encourage frequent emailers to follow best practices to ensure messages are not filtered into Junk mailboxes or blocked altogether.
